Match the tiles.
Hear the tale.

A mahjong solitaire journey through West Africa. Tiles carry real African scripts: Ge'ez numerals, Vai, N'Ko and Adlam. Clear the boards of each city, hear its folktales, and beat the elder before you walk on to the next.

How a city plays

  1. Clear the boards

Match pairs of free tiles until the board is empty. A tile is free when nothing sits on it and one of its sides is open.

  2. Learn the marks

Every script has its own colour and shape, so you can match without reading a letter. Each match tells you what the tile says.

  3. Hear the stories

Each chapter ends with a folktale from the city, retold in our own words with the sources it comes from.

  4. Face the elder

Riddles, a race on the same board and an escape. What you did in the city helps you here.

The journey

City by city

The road starts in Ilé Ifẹ̀ and leads on through West Africa. Each city has its own chapters, its own tales and its own walk to the next one, at the time of day you are playing.
